In the second grade, my Dad bribed me to audition for HELLO DOLLY at the local United Methodist Church in exchange for buttered noodles from my favorite neighborhood restaurant. (My Grandma Ann sewed my costume and made an identical one for my American Girl Doll as a birthday gift).
Ten years later, when I decided to drop out of the neuroscience department and pursue a degree in drama, I would gently remind him that it was his idea in the first place.
